Getting There / Flight Schedules

The most active travel season for tourism in Greenland runs from June through August. There are a number of options for air travel to and from Greenland during these summer months. Air travel in other months is limited to once or twice per week. Travelers can originate in Iceland or Copenhagen, Denmark throughout the summer. GST provides air bookings from and to Iceland and arranges for Icelandair flights from and to the US.

2010 Flights between Iceland and East Greenland

There are daily round trip flights between Reykjavík City Airport in Iceland and Kulusuk in East Greenland between 01 June and 13 September 2010 except on Sundays. Between 29 June and 15 August 2010 there are two round trip flights per day, except Sundays. The flight time is 2 hours. GST offers packages including flights, accommodations and all meals for Kulusuk and Ammassalik, sister towns in East Greenland. Connections between Kulusuk and Ammassalik are provided via Air Greenland operated helicopters and are pre-booked by GST. Note: Iceland departure times are 10:10 AM and 1:00 PM. Flights between Iceland and Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, located in West Greenland


There are four weekly round trip flights between Reykjavík City Airport in Iceland and Nuuk operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The first flight departs on 21 May 2010 and the last flight on 13 September 2010. Note in May, June and September there are no round trip flights on Thursdays. The flight time is 3 hours and 15 minutes. Departing flights from Reykjavík afford acceptable connecting times from Icelandair's US overnight flights, which generally arrive before 7:00 AM each morning. Connections between the international airport at Keflavík and Reykjavík are available via the FlyBus and the trip takes approximately 1 hour. Note: Iceland departure time are 12:00 noon and 12:30 PM. 2010 Flights between Iceland and Ilulissat, located in North Greenland

There are 3 weekly round trip flights between Reykjavík City Airport in Iceland and Ilulissat in North Greenland operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The first flight departs on 22 June 2010 and the last flight on 31 August 2010. The flight time is 3 hours and 45 minutes hours. 2010 Flights between Iceland and South Greenland - Narsarsuaq

There are two weekly round trip flights between Reykjavík City Airport in Iceland and Narsarsuaq in South Greenland operating as follows: Tuesdays and Saturdays starting 15 June 2010 through 29 June 2010 and then on Mondays and Thursdays starting 01 July 2010 through 31 August 2010 and then Tuesdays and Thursdays with the last flight operating on 14 September 2010. Internal Greenland air travel

Please note that Air Greenland operates all internal flights in Greenland. Flights operate on a regular bases connecting from Kangerlussuaq to Ilulissat, Nuuk and Sisimiut. Internal flight connections between regions are often $500 and more per leg per person. For example, to fly from Kulusuk in East Greenland to Ilulissat in West/North Greenland often requires two or more connections as well as a possible overnight and costs approximately US$880.00. Check with GST for the best and most economical options.
